Spiral Out 2014.

It is gonna be a bumpy landing, by Glenawyn Seregon

There were so many firsts.

Last night, at midnight SL time, there were 24 people on Cursed.  On the very last night.  This is unheard of in event circles. It just doesn’t happen.  Normally by the time the event hits the last night, there’s maybe 3 or 4 stragglers rushing to get their last minute shopping done, but everyone has moved on to other events.

There were 24 people on Cursed at midnight last night.

At 6am, when I logged in to lock the sim down, there were 10.  I gave them a warning and a last 15 minutes before I rebooted the sim up.  10 people still there, when we closed.

I don’t have words for that.

This is also the first event we’ve ever had where I didn’t have to ban anyone. Thanks for that, too.  Usually I wind up throwing at least 3 or 4 people on the ban list per event. This time? Nothing. Awesome.

Every time we do an event, we wind up surprised by something. This time, there were nothing but surprises. Most of them were even good. (I won’t lie and say ALL of them were, but most of them.)   We cannot thank everyone enough.  All the merchants, all the shoppers, all the bloggers, all the random people who came by to take photos, and the Firestorm and Linden Lab teams for their incredible, incredible support during these last two weeks.  When I got the final total, I think Lokii needed to sit down.

Greta, by Roxi Firanelli

People have asked me how I pick our charities. I always tell them that I don’t.  That’s not entirely true- I always pick the Oopskate charity.  But for the big events I have never once chosen the charity.   This event is about Lokii.  A few years ago she got really sick, with kidney trouble and needed surgery. The NKF helped her, and every year she pays them back. As my tag says, “I just work here.”

Of course now I have to pester her to make her annual post here, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

The Night Troops 2, by Devin Vaughn

The total raised for the National Kidney Foundation at A Clockwork Spiral 2014 is 733,286L.

When you check the exchange on that (and I always do it at a limit sell of 248 since that’s what I use for myself) you get this:

$2853.32 USD.  That’s roughly 275% more than last year.  Think about that number.  We came close to tripling last year’s total and it’s because everyone came together to help support the NKF.  We don’t have words other than thank you so we’ll keep saying that instead.

As I’ve said MANY times now, due to the changes in Linden Lab’s cashout procedures, we have to turn over the money *in Lindens* to the charity’s representative inworld so they can cash it out. We cannot cash it out directly to the charity anymore. The NKF has their own account – NationalKidneyFoundation Resident, and we have written confirmation from the NKF that the account is legitimate and belongs to them.

Once we turn over the lindens to that account, *we no longer control it*.  Just so everyone understands that.  Our job is to make sure the NKF account inworld gets the money.

Which they have.

Thank you all so much again. Lokii will be along presently to babble for a bit.  As for me, I am working on our next (and newest) event, A Tattered Page* [*citation needed] which you can read about (and apply for if you like) here.

There’s a party tomorrow night, remember?

Toymaker’s Laboratory, by Hephaesteon

Hey gang, I’m back with the update type goodness.

Just as a reminder to everyone – TOMORROW night (which would be Friday) at 8pm PST Lokii Violet will be DJing the big ACS event party.  A bunch of ACS stores are donating gift cards to make up an awesome prize box for best in Steam.   I would give you a list if I could, but everyone is giving the cards to her, so I have no idea who threw in other than MV and House of Rain, but Im sure that there’s a huge bunch of them in her hands by now.  Come on up to the Gothika Mobile Unit for 2 hours of whatever it is she’s going to do.  With the thing, and the stuff.

It seems that there’s a landmark link that’s going around that’s not correct.  Unless the last number in your landmark is 1001? It’s going to put you in the wrong place – probably in the vestibule wall at Gothika Prime. We *cant* force the landing point (and we dont want to, either) because it messes with people who live on the sim full time.  So if you found yourself downstairs? Go upstairs 1000 meters.

Chimera Graves of Black Arts informs me that she has NEW stuff in her booth as of last night . Well actually I know it’s there, I went down and bought it. So if you’re hunting for the new stuff put out DURING the event, stop at Black Arts on your travels.  I am told that there’s still more stuff coming from other people as well.  Merchants are REALLY having fun with this, putting out even more stuff as the event goes on, so be sure to check back with us!

Our bloggers are doing a fine job as usual, filling up our flickr pool and their own blogs with great images. If you’re looking for our Flickr group, you can find it here.

Mystery Plane, by Alisa Perne

We still have plenty of time left at this year’s event, so be sure to come on back up.  I’ll be at the Gothika Mobile Unit tonight from 10-midnight with some swing and big band stuff.  (I forgot to post yesterday about the 6th Anniversary of the Wednesday Night Darkwave but we were pretty busy anyway. Thanks to everyone who came up to hang with me.  I’ll keep bringing the goth on Wednesdays, as always.)

And now, for the update. As of 6pm tonight, we’ve raised 550,288L or $2141.25 for the National Kidney Foundation. Thank you all so much for your generosity. We have so much time left, we might even begin approaching WGF numbers on this one. Wow.

See you tomorrow, gang.

The Spiral Opens.

A Clockwork Spiral 2014 Build, by Kostika Mistwalker

A bit of a bumpy start but we’re here.   ACS 2014 is now open.  The SLurl is http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cursed/78/128/1001 and just as a refresher, here’s a map (click to make it bigger.)

2014 ACS Booth Map 3

There will no doubt be some last minute merchant scrambling for the next 24 hours or so, but rest assured, it will all get here, and ACS will remain open until 6am October 1.  In the meantime there’s PLENTY for everyone to come look at.

Tonight, the Lokapottamus tells me she will be doing a set at the Gothika Mobile Unit at 8pm SLT (spot F on the map, go down the stairs.) and in theory, I’ll be at the mobile unit at 10. Also, turn your music on- we’ve got event appropriate music on MOST of the sim.

Come help us support the NKF.  Welcome to the Spiral.

IMPORTANT (no really). We have to push opening back six hours.

Houston, we have a problem.  Actually we have 20 problems, all of which were handed to me by different people in the past 12 hours. In short, we will be opening at 6pm SLT rather than noon. I am VERY sorry- but given the extent of the issues and the number of people involved there’s very little choice on my part.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

The last gear grinds to a halt (and the event total!)

As the Gears Turn, by Mildread Gloom

The gears have stopped turning for this year at A Clockwork Spiral, but before they did, Mildread Gloom got this great photo on the promenade.  I love the lighting in this.  Thanks Millie! ❤

Well, we finally closed. I actually had to restart the sim to get people to go home!  It’s been an incredible run, and more than we ever expected.  Thank you so much to all the people who came out, shopped, took pictures, dragged their friends out, out AMAZING blogging team (omg they work so hard) and the incredible group of merchants who helped bring ACS together. We don’t really have other words to use, or we’d use them, but thank you.

Of course no one wants to hear me ramble on (I don’t either) so let me get to what you all WANT to know- the total.

I’d set our initial goal at 150KL,  That was based on the first year of WGF, which did a 2 week run (a full 14 days) and had made 220KL in its first year.  (this year, it made over a million linden.) But we only had 5 days for this so 150K seemed reasonable.  I then said if we surpassed it, I’d extend the run to a week next year.  I THEN said, if we hit 258KL (1000USD) I’d make it a full 2 week run, just like World Goth Fair.

The actual total raised in 5 days at A Clockwork Spiral 2013:

L$278,444. or $1082.04USD for the National Kidney Foundation.

We are coming back for a full two weeks next year, folks.  Count on it.

The money is already in motion.  I sent the full amount to my main (because it has an increased cashout limit) and set it at a limit sell of 248 (on larger amounts the limit sell is a much better deal even if it takes a few hours to complete.)

As soon as I get confirmation that the sale has gone through completely, and I send the money off to paypal, I’ll post the screencap.  Right now Im just waiting on the sale to complete. I will post the screencaps of every part of this transaction (as I always do.)

ETA: The sell order has filled, and for slightly higher than expected:

The money is now in motion to Paypal.  (the transaction costs 1USD.) It will take about a week (four business days for me, usually, but there’s a weekend in the way.) As soon as it hits, I will transfer it to the AKF and post the transaction and receipt.

We’re now going to start gearing up for the holidays, which means Gothmas by Gaslight.  Applications will open on November 1.  Again, thank you all- we just provide the playground- you make it happen.

I’ll leave this with one of Sonya’s photos. I couldn’t ask for a better blogger coordinator (and wouldn’t know where to find one anyway…)

O! Flamingia! (and the day three total.)

AClockworkSpiral_01 by DevinVaughn

Today’s header photo is by DevinVaughn.  He blogs for BishieStyle, and he has always been an incredible supporter of every event we’ve ever put on.  He takes beautiful photos and is just an all around super sweet person.  I love this photo so much, and it reminds me that next year we need miniature airships floating around for people to ride. Thanks Devin ❤

Sorry for the late post – to be entirely honest i was asleep at noon PST, which if you were around for WGF you’d know is fairly common.  Oops. Sorry about that.

And now, for some housekeeping – Because we opened at noon, Im extending ACS through noon on Monday the 23rd, just to get the full five days in.  We did this for WGF too, for the same reason.  (I should have thought about it earlier, but frankly didn’t, so here we are.)

Last night was the big party.  It’s the thing from which ACS spawned four years ago.

Four years ago, in mid-September, Lokii did her first steampunk set for Gothika, on a giant airship that was hanging over the harbor (wait why don’t we have a harbor anymore? Remind me to put it back in…  I don’t even remember why we pulled it out…) In order to get off the ship, you literally had to walk the plank.   The sim was PACKED. I don’t think anyone expected the response that first Clockwork Spiral event got.  I also remember the airship being like 450 prims or something stupid like that. Lokii spent weeks trying to cut the prim count down.

We’ve changed ships several times, but the event is always held in mid September, and once we started doing it for charity, the charity has always been the National Kidney Foundation, which was Lokii’s choice since they helped her out with support when she was having some kidney trouble a couple years ago.  Every year, the set is packed, and this year was no exception.  The sim topped out at 64 people last night (I screencapped it at 61, but it definitely went to 64.)

The ship was so crowded not many people got photos. It was just hit or miss as to whether or not you were going to be able to get a shot in.

Sonya (our head blogbunny for all things ever) got in a couple of good ones, though. She managed to nab one of Lokii (of course mutiny occurred within five minutes…)

Mutiny? Throw them overboard! by Sonya Marmurek

she also got a shot of our (well deserved) contest winner. The prize box had 9 stores worth of gift cards.

Steam Horse, by Sonya Marmurek

And I managed to get a single decent shot of our host, Eden Malik (Eden has been on the Gothika staff since her rezday.  She’s the only person I ever broke the 30 day rule for. She’s now some hotshot over at Oceania Breedables, but she still manages to fill in a set or two every so often.)

She looks far more angelic than she is.

All money collected last night went to the charity.   I can’t recall how long Lokii was actually on the deck, but my guess is about 3.5 hours in total.

For years we’ve argued over the name of the ship (I say it’s Blimpy, she says it’s Ophelia) but I think the matter was finally settled by our own mascot, Orvan Taurus.  On my Thursday set, he suggested Oflamingia (owing to Lokii’s love/hate relationship with flamingos.  Don’t ask. Really.) I think that sounds like some horrible steampunk disease, and Lokii couldn’t stop laughing at it when I told her, so I’m pretty sure we’ve renamed the ship the GAS Oflamingia.  It’s still funny.  Im wanting a steam flamingo airship next year.

Thank you so much to everyone who came down, partied with us, donated, and to all the stores who were kind enough to submit gift cards as prizes. Thank you – we are so grateful for your support.  🙂

So after that hugely busy day (and a lot of sleep on everyone’s part…) At noon today PST the charity total was:  L$197,903   (it’s well past 200K as I write this, though.)

So you’ve a bit less than 48 hours to get steamed before we pack up again for another year (though don’t worry, Gothmas by Gaslight is coming in December.)

I’ll leave you with this fantastic photo from our flickr pool by Cindy Gedenspire.  What a great shot!
